How can you change the iPad account/ownership?

Hi everyone, a friend of mine has been using his friend's iPad for ages by simply using his friend's account name, password, etc. Now he wants to use the same iPad, but "switch it over" to his own user name, Apple ID and such. My understanding is this isn't so easy, right? Can it be done and how?

Cheers, Bagwhan

Absolutely. It was actually his father-in-law who was overwhelmed by the technology and gave up on the iPad. I guess the question is how we make the iPad default to a new Apple ID?

You would have to do a factory reset on the iPad, which would erase all content and settings. The iPad would then be set up as a new iPad under the new Apple ID. It is not possible to transfer apps and iTunes content from one Apple ID to another.

Sad but true. Had to do the same when I got the iPad4 and donated the iPad2 to the wife.

Sent from my iPad using iPF

Thanks guys, I've already told him the reset is the best option. Now I'll try and convince him it's the only option! Cheers!

If father-in-law is overwhelmed and won't use his iTunes account in future, maybe the son-in-law can just take over his iTunes account. If there are email address, credit card and mailing address attached, he can just replace them with his own.

you can just add a new id for the ipad without problem and keep the old apps when you think its useful rather than use factory reset and delete everything in it when I bought my ipad it has 4 or 5 different other people ids in it for different apps and I just added mine with no problem except I cannot update the apps that using those ids but its not a problem
