Home button ?

I am sorry if this does not make sense but I am new to all this the problem is as follows , when I press the home button sometimes a microphone pops up and a recording asking if he can help, could some one tell me how and if I can turn this off ,it does go when I press the home button again with a wavy bar across the bottom. Help please.

I guess that Siri is enabled on your iPad. It starts working when you press the Home button a little longer.
To avoid this:
First possibility - press the Home button only for a short time.
If you don't need this feature, turn it off: in Settings - General - Siri.
