HayDay Friends Off-Topic

Bette Middler is a classic, Donna! I like The Rose. Her voice is so clear and beautiful!! I didn't know her bday was the same as yours! How cool!

Micky, I know of your Black Crowes, but not very familiar with their songs. I might know them without knowing I know them. I YTd them on the title sing, but it was a bad recording so I'll have to look for a better one!!

Thanks for sharing ladies!!

I'm the same...I know the Black Crows...just can't quite place the music. I'm off to YT.

Edit: I remember their sound now. They had some good stuff. Good one! And all that hair, oh my!

My first salvo.... REO Speedwagon. Loved their lyrics. I could sing this album backwards and forwards. "Time for me to fly". About a dude who just couldn't take his GF anymore. I've been around for you, been up and down for you But I can't get Any relief...... GC: pristoph ......... HD Level 51(making candy!!)......DV Level 30

I love REO Speedwagon!!!! Can't Fight This Feeling, Take It On The Run, Keep On Loving You, Dream Weaver, Time For Me To Fly, and on and on!!! Saw them at the Irwindale Motor Speedway!!! I might change my pick to yours!!! :)

I was thinking about them and I remembered about all their cassette tapes I had! They sort of yellowed over the years of use! I wonder where those are! Definitely pre CDs!

This was my introduction to jazz-funk fusion in my teens - Herbie Hancock: Headhunters. I have loved jazz in all its incarnations since then. This was regarded as a bit mainstream by the purists at the time, compared to Hancock's earlier work, but has become hugely influential.

Yes, Carolyn, definitely cassettes. You listed some of the good ones there. So many ballads, which are pretty much my fav, but I like lots of stuff. This just brings me back to the days when I really started to pay attention to and enjoy music.

Whitney Houston. Debut album. Released 1985. She was disqualified from being nominated as Best New Artist by Grammy awards that year because she had dueted on one song with Teddy Pendergrass in 1984. Many artists before and after Whitney had gone on to compete (and win) in that category despite their circumstances being the same as Whitney's were, and without a word from the bosses at Grammy-land. It's still a mystery why she was really disqualified. Sade won the Grammy.

I've never heard such clarity as I hear in her voice in her early years. I think this album shows her talent as well as her real beauty on the cover. So natural. Before the world of celebrity, too much money, too much dysfunction and too much spending every last dime on crap that will kill you. The woman's voice was once out of this world, she was untouchable there for a while back then.

This is just a special album, one track in particular for me, but I'm not telling you lot which one :-P

Seen her live twice.

My Love is Your Love world tour / London - 1999
Nothing but Love world tour / London - 2010

You all know how much I love Emeli, but you'll never understand how much more I love Whitney, or how much I miss her.

(Sorry for the essay)

Those are some very interesting titles!!! I'll spend some YT time now.... farm? What farm???!!!! :)

What interesting and wonderful choices there are! My farm is also being neglected as I explore YT for some old familiar songs and some new ones. This is a wonderful voyage of discovery, getting to know you all better, through your pictures and music choices. Love it! I was supposed to do all sorts of boring stuff today - everything is on hold now! Much more fun!

oh, I so love Whitney!!!! I have all her songs!!!!! I didn't know about the disqualification, thanks for that but if info!!!! One of greatest voices of all time!!! Not to mention the bodyguard is one of my all time favorite movies!!! Dolly Parton ( a country music legend wrote the song I will always love you and originally recorded it but she is quoted as saying " when I wrote and sang the song it put money in the bank, when Whitney released it, I bought the bank" I love that quote!!!
