Question of the Day/Night:

How much of your HD/IPF time is now spent on the HD Chat sidebar? If you can, put it as a percentage of time. If you know, are you spending less time on the HD game itself or less time with the IPF due to the new Chat? Thanks for your participation! :)

Hmmm. I really like the chat sidebar. It's so great for trades, helping out on farms and quick visiting. And I enjoy the chatting, although I would say that only 5-6 of the 20 of us chat much. But, I HATE that we all can't be in one neighborhood if we want! I would say maybe 15-20% of the time I'm on hay day, I'm actually checking in on the chat. Depends on how active it is... Overall I like the concept, but I really hope they allow bigger groups.

I spent a bit more at the outset; not as much now. Most of the group I am in is in the Philippines so they are more active when I'm sleeping. I probably spend 10% of my game time on the chat. I spend less time here, generally because I have less free time these days, but mostly because it has become (sadly) very quiet around here. ;( Guess everyone is having more fun elsewhere and the chats are successful for HD. The quietness on here made me wonder and, thus, my QotD! Thanks for responding!
Sorry I upset everyone. Later gang Sent from my IPad using IPF. GC wenchwhino HD level 62
Donna? Why are you saying that you upset everyone? I'm not upset about anything...
Like Nancy, I'm just either so busy lately, or too tired :( The real time chat is a blessing and a curse - it's fun and fast, but occupies so much of my time when I get involved, that I can't get my farm in order! Lol :) It's great for a quick trade or urgent need, though. The IPF is fun because everyone's here, but responses are slow and sometimes it IS too quiet and people are missing :( Overall I also spend probably 10% of my time chatting, and it's sometimes keeping me out of IPF because I'm torn between HD, LP, IPF and HD chat! There's a lot going on around here and did I mention I'm tired?? Lol GC: EyeC999 Level 91
one question, Sam, are you tired? :). Thanks for responding to my QotD!
I don't spend that much time in the chat sidebar, probably less than 10%. It moved too fast, you can't backspace to correct something, and it has very weird rules about permissible words! It is useful for trading and tog et to someone's farm quickly, but not everyone is there! So I like to come back here. I like the fact that the in-game chat is not public though. And it is far too quiet here! Chumleyboo, level 79
it does go too fast and can get confusing trying to follow it sometimes, for me anyway!

excellent point, Karine! Thanks for your response!

I have several. I'd be hard pressed to pick one as a favourite.
NCIS: it's a smart, well-written, engaging show. In its 11th season, it has longevity and of course Mark Harmon. Good casting and enjoyable each week.

Next on the list is Doctor Who. I was a biggest fan of the show when David Tennant was the Doctor; will have to see how the new guy bonds with me. Love the concept and the plots are usually good. Plus I think it's brilliant that the show is not dependant on one guy -- the actor lives on and the character just regenerates into someone new for the next season. Brilliant!

Next, Sherlock. Another BBC original show but it is smart, deep, well written and exceptionally acted. I worry that the two main characters are now becoming big actors with some recognition and fame and that they might move on. They say they love doing the show, and the seasons are only three episodes so I hope they continue to do it. (Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman)

And if you're looking for another exceptionally well acted and riveting show, check out Broadchurch. Originally from BBC as well (not sure why three of my fav are from BBC!?), you can find it on iTunes. Starring David Tennant (yes, I like him), it's such a good show that Fox is redoing it (with David Tennant oddly enough), calling it Gracepoint and "Americanizing" it. They are filming now so it will be interesting to see how it turns out. Watch the original though. It's exceptional television.

Intriguing, Nancy! What do you suppose is the commonality within your three fav BBC shows that draws you to them? How do you feel about Diwnton Abbey? I really loved watching the first two seasons! The costuming was impeccable! The attention to detail was fabulous! People took pride and responsibility in and for their position. It all is getting looser as the times change, so the draw for me is waning a bit.

Hey, Donna! I haven't seen some of these... I like Greys Anatomy and used to love Downton, now it is good, but not so great as it was. I also watch Scandal and Revenge. I'm way behind in all these shows tho...life interrupted :(.

I didn't get in to Downton Abbey.
I think the common thread in the ones I like could be David Tennant. ;)
Seriously, I think what I like is that they are smart, well written and they don't pander. If you're into car crashes and explosions they're not the right show. I think most in North American audiences might find Broadchurch slow. The character development and story development over 8 shows is stellar. I like that all those shows aren't predictable and are not easy to come to the end before it's time. I watched all 8 episodes of Broadchurch and was still taken aback at the conclusion. Wasn't at all what I expected. I like that. Keeps you guessing....

Interesting choices! I loved Broadchurch, and Sherlock, and enjoyed Orange is the New Black. It's too hard to pick a favourite, there are so many. All time favourites are the following:

image-3631568663.webp. image-3220995359.webp.image-946166104.webp. image-3872675953.webp. image-168025721.webp. image-1333413214.webp. image-3304653781.webp

I think what all these shows have in common is the quality of the writing, which is superb! We are currently watching The Walking Dead, and I look forward each week to that cathartic hour of dread and terror! If anyone is interested in The Bridge or The Killing, see the Scandinavian originals, not the remakes.
