Here's another thing precious to me....Olive :) This pic was taken just now while she was sleeping (and snoring!) ....and this was taken the next second after she heard the camera go off! Awww! :D GC: EyeC999 Level 86

Awww! I'love Olive! She's sweet!

This has really made me think about what is precious to me and more importantly, why. Just like most people my family - both the one I grew up with and the one I'm now part of with my husband and son - are hands down the most precious thing in my life. I know that without my son, my life would be diminished beyond recognition. It's not until you have a child that you really understand your purpose in life and I don't mean to be disrespectful to people without children but it's what we as animals do - we procreate and by doing so a biological button is pressed that releases a emotion of such intensity that it remains with you until you die. So that's what's most precious to me.

If, however, we are thinking in terms of what would I save from a burning building precious, then it would be this small simple sculpture that hangs on the wall. My sister Amanda gave it to me and for me it embodies the role of a father in a child's life - I'll help you, you can count on me, just hold on tight, I'll always be there,I won't let you fall - it reminds me of my own father and when I see my husband and son together I see the same bond. It's a small simple sculpture capable of overwhelming me with emotion - love, loss ( my father is dead ) hope - precious :)

So I guess that ultimately what is precious to us it something that retains a memory of us at our best, something that we can look at, touch, feel that invokes a memory of when we were at our best, a vase, a book, a ideology, a family :)

As I said this has made me think and I hope you don't mind me sharing my thoughts ....

It's really not an exciting story, just means a lot to me. Hubby (John) and I used to enjoy browsing round a particular antique shop in Seattle. I spotted this little vase and completely fell in love with it. Don't really know why, I see lots of pretty things in there, but this vase just drew me in. I always admired it, but it was $65 and we were broke, and I couldn't justify spending it. For months I saw this little vase and would always pause at the cabinet it was in and peek at it for a couple of minutes. One day we went in and it had sold :( I was gutted! If I couldn't have it at least I wanted to be able to look at it! John said to talk to the shop owner and ask if it was really sold, or maybe moved, and she said sold" :( I was irrationally sad about it. Three weeks later on my birthday John gives me a present - the little vase was mine! Bawled my eyes out! The End.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the story of the vase! That is true love...

Most precious to me... my family. All of them, but especially my husband because I waited 38 years to find the right man!
Here he is in his crazy dinosaur hunting hat.

This is a great topic. So many nice stories. It's good to stop and reflect on what truly matters every once in a while.....

If my house was on fire, I'd try to get all the photos out! Not worth a hill of beans, except to me.

I can relate, took me 33 years to find mine ! Worth the wait, but the "growing old together" bit is all happening a bit soon, lol! :D
Sent you a FR, by the way :)

So many lovely and thought-provoking new posts on this thread. Too many to reply to individually or by multi quote.

Donna, KJ, and Crazy lady - thank you for sharing your lovely parents, son and hubby with us!
KJ - love the beautiful sculpture.
Sam - love the story behind your vase.
Carolyn - thank you for sharing your Precious. And I love the first photo of him, when he must have been about two minutes old, all scrunched up with a secret smile on his face!
Val - books are so expensive here too, mostly because they have sales tax on them. They should be excluded!
