I'm only level 26 so that might make a difference, but I don't really buy anything besides building materials in the paper at full price. Only when I was searching for stuff for the boat when getting my captain achievements.

On the other hand, after advertising I've noticed that sugar, cream, butter, cakes and pies all get sold right away at full price.
