Ay ideas why someone would have the "!" meaning they need help, but I can't find anything they need help. No boat crates, nothing for sale and no thirsty trees/bushes?

it's very similar but there's a record of it and you can compete with your friends and strangers. the friend leader board is not working for me though, the strangers (global) is working but it's very unrealistic, since it opened up people helped almost 3000 boats, that's impossible plus the guy hasn't levelled up, I imagine helping 3000 boats levels you up at least 5 levels up. and those top people keep getting new boats in without the 4 hour wait, I just witness one boat sail away and a new one coming up right away

You can spend a diamond to bring a boat in whenever. Also the points aren't the number of boats helped. I've seen 1-2 points per crate and the boat around 19 points plus 16 points for a time bonus.

the ! doesn't work. at least not yet, the same here - people with nothing to help have it on, but people who have boats with open crates don't have it

oh what's the time bonus?

that explains why I got 2 points for one crate, but don't know why I got 1 point for 2 crates before that though

On the boat under where it says what you get it tells you how many points you get for that boat and then there is a little clock next to it. When you fill the boat the clock turns into points.

I guess it will take awhile to figure it all out. Lots to learn and I sure hope they can speed things up

Silly me! I was so excited about helping other boats, I forgot what I needed for mine! So I'll open some crates. I have time to fill them and can use Tom so only fill if you really want to. Or if you want your name to move up that board but the dock

thanks will be watching out for that, still doesn't explain why people are not leveling up after all that help and how it's even possible to help 2700 boats in an hour

If you're referencing the icon beside the points when you select a crate, that's not a clock. It's a helm. It's used to steer the ship.

thanks will be watching out for that, still doesn't explain why people are not leveling up after all that help and how it's even possible to help 2700 boats in an hour

Had to send my boat away since the upgrade, because it asked for stupid items. But as mentioned, it is not "boats" they are counting.
When they spend diamonds to call in boat after boat and their boats get filled by help of others in very short time, they might geht (guessing) +30 for a boat were they didn't fill a single crate on, thus not leveling up. And because they are high on the board lots of people visit their farm and fill a crate, just like you did.

Haven't filled an own boat yet, so not sure if it might work this way.

Yes, but on your own boat there is a watch similar to the ones for the machine mastery.

No, on your boat order, next to the little ship you press to cast off where the voucher is... there is a clock that turns to points. I got 16 just now. Don't know what it meant.
