Is the outside frame of their name on your friend bar different then the others? I had that too I couldn't shake them, but finally they went away on their own. Be sure they aren't game center friends.

I have that problem, too. One of those buggy followers is even an empty farm the way it is before you start the game. All the buildings are in ruins :D
I unfollowed them and followed other people before they came back and now I have one extra sales box. But if I use that, the game crashes...
