How can you send boats away without having to wait 18 hours?

Don't fill any crates, don't flag any crates for help. Then click the boat. Same way as if you're sending it away full. Then click yes, cast off to send it away empty.

How can you send boats away without having to wait 18 hours?

You tap the boat icon at the bottom ( the same one you tap to send a filled boat off early). It will ask you to conform if you want to send it off and you say yes.
If you fill a crate or ask for help, you have to wait the 18 hrs.

do you ever learn any new recipes on the smelters? i have been hoarding shovels because i thought that maybe one day you will be able to find another material other than platinum, gold or silver?
