I've been using my M2 iPad Pro as my main device for about four years. Before that I used another iPad Pro for a few years, again as my main device. Nothing I do really needs the extra power of a pro model, though I do love the extra screen. While the the OS updates have occasionally been bumpy, the device has only improved for general computer use over the years. These days when I switch back to my MacBook Air, it's just because there are a few things I prefer to do on that device, mostly Microsoft Word, not because I have to do them there.
That said, I almost always use it with a keyboard, and on a desk or table. even reading a book. It's a bit large to hold for long periods of time. The only exception is comics and anime, where holding it in portrait is an amazing reading experience. Better than physical media.
That being the case, I've just ordered a new MacBook Pro, 16" with the touch screen. It was time to upgrade either the MacBook Air, or the iPad. I decided to find out if it was time to switch back to mostly laptop use. I'll keep my iPad Mini for reading books. I love it for that, and I'm not getting rid of of the iPad Pro. It should last another couple years. If I decide the MacBook Pro isn't my new favorite by then, I'll probably switch things up again.
Honestly, I don't think you'll be disappointed with either choice, though you should keep in mind that moving between the two does require a bit of adjustment. Going full iPad will mean learning a few new ways of doing old things.
