Hello from sunny So. Cal. I recently bought an iPad1 primarily for book reading and then surfing the interent without having to be in the back room where my computer is located. I am 74 and my wife and I are in the process of downsizing. I pretty much sold off my library of about 500 books and replacing them with the ipad. I have read books & articles off my computer for several years so I didn't expect any problems with the iPad. And in fact in most cases I would rather read off the iPad than a book.
My interest are all over the place first in the Bible, then science, history, economics, politics and biographies.
The problem I am working on now involves using a split screen to have two different books displayed at one time. The split screen apps I have come accros, Olive Tree and Logos, only work with books you have downloaded from them. I want to be able to use books in any of my libraries i.e. iBooks, Google, Kindle etc.
If anyone knows of such an qpp. plese let me know.
Look forward to an educational and enjoyable time on thie forum.
Norm

Good to hear from you. You’ll find a whole bunch of iPad enthusiasts in this Forum who are only too willing to help other iPad owners and to hear of their experiences. Don’t be afraid to post any questions you may have or use the ‘Search’ button near the top of the Forum web page. I usually find I discover one new interesting and useful piece of information about my iPad every day - and often not even what I was looking for!!

I noticed your question about split screen - there have been some posts today about this and I'll try and find them for you. I love Southern California - worked at TRW near San Diego some years ago and loved La Jolla.....

Hope to hear from you soon with your thoughts about the iPad.

Have fun and enjoy your iPad

If you don’t already have it you can download a copy of the iPad manual for free.

There is no way to run two app in split screen mode. As you've found, some apps can display 'content' in a split screen, but due to the way iOS work you can not run different apps this way.

However, if your books are not DRM, it may be possible to load them into your split screen viewer. Most Kindle and iBooks are DRM, and won't work. A few of the free ones may, but also may need to be converted first. It gets complicated.

If you have a specific case I could try and cover it, but I'm afraid I'm not up to typing the article it would take to cover the full range of possibilities right now, even if I knew what the full range was. :)
