The thing a lot of people dont understand about android is that the apps you download are free to do whatever they what to your phone like send your info to their servers, make calls or send text messages from your device without you knowing. iPhones don't have this security issue.

I can see the android market getting a lot of fake apps that look like they are for one thing yet they do something completely different like monitor/collect information (spyware) or can be used remotely by the creator to do things like issue DOS attacks on servers.

Just think, some programmer (probably a 13 year old) could put out a fake app the a bunch of people like and download. Then use that to control thousands of cellphones instructing them to attack and bring down a major website.

could even see some sort of terrorist attack this way and bring down all the cellphones. People go crazy when there is no cellphone service and are also unable to call 911.

It's not like apple really is perfect in their app checking. Either way there are no malicious apps like that on the market...the article even says it isn't malicious.

Yeah there app checking is pretty worthless but the way the iPhone is, apps dont have access to the system. All apps need to use apples provided secured API's to communicate with anying on the device. Apps dont have access to just do what ever they want unless they are running on a jailbroken device.

Thats why things like the rick roll iphone/iPad worm only affect jailbroken devices.

You can't change the system files on android either without being rooted. If you don't enable a script to read write the system files only after being rooted you can't do shit with the system...just like with apple. If you download a non root file system explorer without root you can only even browse or see the sd card file system.

Yeah you cant change the system but the apps can do pretty much what ever they want without changing the system.

Android is going the Microsoft Route.
