...how can I listen to pandora and surf online or maybe play games at the same time on the first iPad?

What iOS version are you running? The iPad has been able to multi-task (e.g.surf and play Pandora at the same time) since iOS 4.x came out November 2010.

Open Pandora Radio and start your favorite radio station. Click the Home button on your iPad1 and find whatever app you want to use and tap it. You now have Pandora and whatever app you want to use open and running at the same time.
