Let's start a thread about the first applications people plan on installing and why. Here is my list:

1) The Elements - Yes, it is pricey, but I am a science major and I look forward to the functionality of this application. It might actually make learning entertaining.

2) iPDF Reader - It was the only free PDF reader that I saw for the ipad.

3) Kindle - I've had a kindle since it came out, I want to keep my library of books. I will probably continue purchasing through this. I figure Kindle books I will be able to read on the iPad and future Kindles, but with iBook, I will be locked down to only one device.

4) iBook - Incase it has functionality that Kindle does not have.

5) Netflix - Obvious reasons

6) ABC Player - Same as above

7) Dictionary.com - I like using words correctly.

8) Isocards - I needed at least one game...

Many thanks for the "In App Purchases Tip"
Here is the info for those who don't know:

  1. Go to “Settings” -> “General”.
  2. Scroll to “Restrictions” and tap the “Enable Restrictions” button.
  3. You’ll be asked to set a passcode which will be used to lock certain iOS functions.
  4. Scroll down to the “Allowed Content” section and slide the “In-App Purchases” to “Off.”
Once you’re done, only those who know the passcode you’ve set in the third step will be able to spend your hard-earned money on in-app purchases. It’s that easy.

Words with Friends is a game exactly like Scrabble.
MyPad is my Facebook app of choice, until an official one comes out.
Echofon is my Twitter app of choice.
Angry Birds is a game.
Evernote is a note taking/word processing app.

My list is (no particular order). I use most of these apps everyday.
1. MyPad
2. Netflix
3. Hulu plus
4. Amazon
5. Google Voice (sends calls to my Droid 2)
6. Slacker/Spotify (have premium subscription to both)
7. I heart radio (use it with 3G in car mostly to listen to Elvis Duran)
8. Remote (to send stuff to my apple tv)
9. Bank of America/ Wells Fargo apps
10. App Miner (find apps on sale)
11. Audio note (use it to take notes in class)
12. Docstogo (to open and edit word, PowerPoint and excel documents)
13. Good Reader (to open and edit PDF files)
14. Splash top remote browser
15. Atomic web browser
16. Photon flash web browser (only one that let's you play flash games)

I also have iProgram with lifetime subscription ($4.99, which is much cheaper than buying a book), which gives hands on tutorials for learning how to code objective c. The subscription allows me to view all tutorials and have access to all the updates. Just got a mid 2011 mac mini ($799 version) for my bday so I can start creating iOS apps.
