face time not working

Any one else found that FaceTime tries to connect then just fails

How's your Wi-Fi? Usually this would be a sign that the signal is weak.

Try enabling Airplane Mode, and turning it off again.

Further steps would be to remove the network (Forget this Network) and reinstall it; reset network settings (Settings - General - Reset); go to Settings - Facetime, tap your Apple ID and sign out, then sign in again.
