Email/Active Sync - Work Offline Problems

Using Ipad (Email sync with Exchange Activesync)on Airplane. I can compose emails and the will save in the "outbox" and send when reconnected to wireless but have a question about exisiting email. I was moving some emails between inbox subfolders and it appeared to be working ok. Closed email, then opened back up a little while later. I had a popup for every email i moved or worked with stating that it could not perform the task or something like that. Is there a proper way to move emails between sub folders while offline , is this something not supported or maybe an app to handle offline email use?
