I use a facility on my laptop to send a text message to a mobile phone via my email, does anyone know an ipad app that will do the same or similar?

There are several apps that will allow you to send text messages from your iPad via a network connection - either WiFi or 3G. However, many are country specific so it's difficult to know which would be available in Spain. Jelly SMS is available in the UK and is free to use for some text messages.

You can also try text plus. My kids and I love it.
