E-books don't show after sync

I apologize for the noon question. I am a PC user and I have been using an Ipod and Itunes for a couple of years.
I just got my Ipad yesterday and synced it up with Itunes.
My movies all show up and I can access them from the video icon on the home page/desktop.
However: I have a ton of e-books, which all show up in iTunes under the books icon, both in iTunes and on iPad. When I look for em on the iPad, I can't see them anywhere.
What am I missing?

Figured it out. Loaded the ibook viewer from the pp store and I'm good to go!

Now I need o figure out how to load and view pdf files on the Ipad after installing the pdf viewer app...
