Dragonvale Tips & Tricks! (NO Friend Requests!)

The only important ones are the high earners, and that's really only if you are regularly clearing their habitat before it fills up. Adding 20% to a dragon with a base earn rate of 130 coins per minute is going to Net you much more than adding 20% to a dragon earn 35 coins per minute. With that in mind:

1. Plant, Lightning & Air Boosts are wasted on their habitats because they hold so little and fill up so fast anyway. So use them on hybrid dragons in other habitats, keeping an eye out for their opposites. Use Lightning in the Earth Habitats to boost Quake Dragons or Cold Habitats to boost Storm dragons, but be aware that Mud and Ice/Iceberg dragons are going to take a hit so you should move them to a different Island if you can. If you can't for whatever reason, then just remember that Quake at 59 is gaining 12 coins a minute whilst Mud at 35 will lose 7 coins a minute, a Net Gain of 5 coins a minute. The figures are almost identical for Storm (59) and Ice (36) in the Cold Habitat, though Iceberg earns 53 so you're closer to a break even proposition thought still slightly ahead. Of course if you have 2 Quake Dragons and only 1 Mud Dragon your Net Gain is 17 coins a minute, and so on. And these calculations are for Level 10 Dragons, and the higher the level of the improved dragon the better off you are again.

Personally I'm about to put the Lightning Boost with my Metal habitats, and fill one with 4 x Level 15 Magnetic Dragons. These will be double boosted to earn 68 coins per minute each for a total of 272 coins per minute for the habitat. I only check to collect coins about every 6 hours, morning, lunch and evening, when I put my 6 hour Pumpermelons into my Treat Farms. They'll generate about 98 000 coins in those 6 hours, meaning I can collect more from them then my Panlong/Earth habitats which max out at 75 000.

The Plant Boost is best used on Clover Dragons in Earth Habitats. Next choice is Swamp Dragons in a Water Habitat. Love, Flower and Poison in a Fire Habitat is also good, but as Fire caps out at half of the value of a Water Habitat, it's the weakest option.

Air Boost is best used on Fog Dragons, so place it on your Water Island.

2. Cold Boost used to be ideal with the Cold Habitat, because it positively boosted the high earning Blue/Frostfires and didn't negatively affect them. That changed with the new update, so we found ourselves in a position of needing to move the Cold Boost away from our Cold Habitats. The only decent earning Cold dragon is the Iceberg, so place them in your water habitat, and place your Cold Boost there.

3. Earth Boost has been kept from the Earth Habitats since the Panlong came to town, because it negatively affected the Air portion of it. Generally the best idea is to have Earth Habitats on 2 Islands. Panlong on one (which I'll get to shortly) and Quakes and Clovers on another with the Earth, Plant and Lightning Boost. If you can't manage that, than Boosting Muds in a Water Habitat is probably your next best bet.

4. Fire & Water Boosts have been used exclusively for Panlongs since that dragon hit the market. Giving a double boost to a dragon that earns 193 coins a minute at level 10 is such an enormous advantage that any negative consequences that you get from using these two boosts for this, and only this dragon, dwarf into insignificance. Poppy's Chinese Gold Coin Factory (Patent Pending) perfected this set up with an island populated exclusively by large Earth habitats, each housing 3 Level 15 Panlongs. Each habitat has an output of over 1200 coins a minute, and literally tens of millions of coins are collected each day. There is now no other way to use these boosts. It is important to note that only these 2 boosts should be used on the Panlongs. Air and Earth boosts boost act on the negatively, and should be removed from the Panlong island.

5. Metal Boost is only for the Metal habitats. This species of dragon is such a low earner that a single boost is not going to help them peform well in any other habitat. Leave it on your Metal Island, and make sure there are no Plant dragons on it.

6. Collecting Coins from the Habitats is a big factor on your boost usefulness. If you're not able to collect coins every couple of hours, then you will find that your habitats are generally full when you get to them anyway and the boosts are unimportant. What you should do in this case is to see which habitats are not filling up and seeing what you can do about placing higher earning dragons in them, or moving boosts to help. As I can not check regularly, I have moved half my boosts to the Island with my Metal Habitat to give those slow earners in the big capacity habitat a decent chance. This will double boost all the dragons there and help make the most of that 125 000 capacity.

Hope this has been useful.
Please ask any specific questions if you would like some clarification.

You are amazing sir! Thanks for the insightful analysis. My available time to check in with my dragons has become more limited lately and this info helps me tremendously! :)

Here goes nothing....

Well I hope you all enjoyed your selfs and we look forward to seeing you again soon...
Wonderful. That was a lot of fun! I love the idea of egg snatchers, and the sauna island. The island of games is really neat, too, very imaginative. I can just see some really nervous dragons hoping they'll win the games, really not wanting to get turned into a baby and have to start all over again! That's really cute, really imaginative. Or getting to go home through the dragon tree. Look at all those panlongs on that overgrown island! I really like how the lightning habitat is like hidden in its own yellow forest. Paths looks cool, too, like someone else said. Metal island looks good, very nice job matching colors together. I wouldn't have thought to put some of those together like you did. Colosseum island looks really neat, kinda imposing! The colosseum and fountain of youth don't show up cuz of the glitch, but you will find you're missing one path piece behind the colosseum's left side, FYI. Ice island is a nice combination of natural terrain. Good job! Fun stuff.

Time to come out of lurkdom and introduce myself. The first thing I really have to do is thank you wonderful folks for all the helpful info you have posted, for a new player like me it makes all the difference in the world not to have to constantly reinvent the wheel. Learning how to use the search feature on this forum was the 2nd most wonderful thing.

This forum seems to be filled with friendly, helpful people who get along very well. Very unusual in today's hit and run, say any hurtful thing you want to non-ethics atmosphere. I think I will really like it here. :)

Have been playing now for about 3 weeks and am very happy with my progress, so far. Still have lots of rares to find, and have just recently started looking towards shrine totals, so there is still much to keep me interested. So much more to learn, but am very confident this is the place to get the needed help.

My GC is in my signature, would have preferred to have my profile name PixieWA to match my GC, but can't figure out how to change it or delete the ShirleyWA acct.

Welcome! You are going to love it here!

Thanks Fletch! Level 10 Air and 15 Iron gave me Iron. Level 13 Air and 15 Iron gave me Chrome. Might go back to Level 10 Air to save the myself the extra hour it takes to breed Chrome vs Iron.

The levels of the Dragons make no difference. I'm sure you've stumbled across my post with the data since you posted this, but if you put an Air and Iron in the EBI you will get Sandstorm 10% of the time, Chrome 45% of the time and Iron 45% of the time.

Quick question....

Does the gem tree refresh every 24 hours, or every 24 hours after the last gem is given out?

Thanks,
Poppy

Good question! Although I haven't splurged on the tree yet (hope that doesn't make me an embarrassment ;) my gems seem to be refreshing later every day. Admittedly I don't always give them out immediately after I noticed they have refreshed so perhaps that is the answer. Anyone know? Anyone want to track it? LOL

I have another question...

How many posts do you think I can make in a row without being interrupted?

Actually, here's the real question. I really like the fact that you can plainly see an element inside of the orbs above the head of a 10+ dragon. It's very clear with the higher resolution of the iPad. Does the element shown give us any hints about breeding? Is it that dragon's dominant element?

Poppy

FWIW - I've always been able to see the element in the orbs on my iPad 2. (Mine may be an exceptional product!) :P I believe the element in the orb is the first one listed in the "Egg" section of the market.

Redecorated a couple of my islands! Rather happy with the layout. Gonna keep working on the rest of my islands tomorrow. Not sure what to do with my 1st island... Any suggestions? Btw, i cant move my portal cause of the egg statue! Ive given up on boosts. The dragons will make what they make. I just want my islands to be aesthetically pleasing. Comments welcomed ^_^

So when I warped in there were these two giant rainbow dragons hovering over me. Kinda imposing, but I said I'd visit, so here I was. Now I just had to find her. There were six Rainbows on this island, and that was pretty impressive. What was even more impressive was that they were in such tight formation but not nipping at each other's tails! I went on to explore the rest of the island. There was a couple nicely-tended flower gardens. I wondered when Tif was gonna send me some flowers. There were also some nice dragon egg statues, and a very symmetric layout of buildings at the top of the island. At the bottom was a regal Dragonsai Tree, bursting with gems. I wondered when Tif was gonna send me some of them.

I zipped over to another island, heading easterly. There were a few stately snow-covered evergreens towering over me, and I shivered a bit in the chill. Looking out between the branches I saw a rare Leap Year Dragon at place of pride in the island's center. I hadda go check that guy out! Alas, his name was Leap Year Dragon. Snore. Not Tommy. Oh, well. That turned me off, so I didn't explore the rest of the island, warped out in a huff.

The next island I came to was very homey, basically a little town! It was cute, really neat. Some nice paths clicked under my wizard boot feet I zig-zagged up between lampposts towards a well and a central square. I made a right and entered a quaint little green-roofed tavern. Good time for a pit-stop, and the beef stew was delicious. I nabbed a bottle of Dragon's Breath Grog to carry with me, and explored the rest of the island. There were homes along the northern end, and some farms there, too. The thatched-roof cotteges looked cute and cozy. After a little bit I stumbled upon a kind of hidden, out-of-the-way path, which went through a little forest. There were lots of different decorations, some really neat stuff that I'd never have thought would look good together but did. At the end was another Leap Year Dragon! Neat! Never mind the pot of gold, what was his nam- oh. Leap Year Dragon again. Boring. But! There was a party hat there, which I promptly put on, and skipped out to another island.

This next island looked cold! But clearly there was powerful magic at work, because while the ice was glittering still some other dragons were splashing and frolicking on definitely-not-frozen ponds. Very nicely done. The ait trees looked great, very healthy and thriving. Hmm, good magic work keeping the cold cold and the wet wet, except one minor detail: the wishing wells were all frozen, too! Doh. I tossed s hunk of swiss cheese up to the cute baby Moon Dragon, and proceeded along my way.

This next island that I landed on was very impressive. Two stately and regal-looking Sun Dragons kept marching back and forth, watching over a diagonal broadway of brick, lined on either side by tall, colorful banners, flapping in the wind. Bronze-colored fearsome statues of many different dragons reared up on either side, as though guarding the way. But to what? A green, square field? Weird. Why would all this pomp and circumstance be set up so impressively, just to lead up to an empty field? It was puzzling. I couldn't figure it out. I spotted a library, though, and ran over there. I checked out an adventure coloring book that had dragons all over it. It was really cool, and it even came with crayons! I looked forward to coloring it in, as well as solving the mystery at the end! It was called, "Where's My Colosseum?"

The final island was the most impressive. Great columns of crystalline metal jutted forth from the ground, and the well-tended paths were cast into eerie shadow not only by the many paper lanterns lining them but also the giant volcano under eruption in the very middle of the island! Some really cool lightning crystals kept some really cool lightning dragons in check, and some fierce-looking new metal dragons were there, too. But most impressive was a veritable army of Panlongs!

I was really impressed by the whole layout, and the thought that had gone into it. I wanted to leave a note in the guestbook, telling the park manager how clean the place was, and how well-laid-out everything seemed. I really wanted to meet the wizard, too, who had put this all togeth- hey, party hats! Cool!

It definitely is the first element listed in the hybrid dragons' descriptions. I was wondering whether it would effect their boosting..

Thank you very much for that... I will look and see about fixing the path piece.. I am glad you liked it.

Got a lichen dragon with cold and swamp! I have not had a plant habitat in a long time, so had to try breeding a lichen with a plant hybrid. I also tried cold with poison, but was not successful with that combo.

I didn t buy any but i can go to the window "confirm your purchase". Is it bugging after you confirm and enter your password?

The iTunes store has been down for hours - vendors must be tearing their hair out. I guess we're supposed to be doing something else on a Saturday night. I'm going to watch Ides of March with my wife.
