You should buy a gem tree and put it on the third island space. I love what youve done with the second island, the x pattern is really good, youve got water on the right and fire on the left. Also a really good position for that volvano.

My two cents worth....

First I need to be clear that I am no expert on design. Mine tend to be very practical and symmetrical and don't transport you to a dreamworld like, say, .ilUli.'s. Also, I think design is subjective and personal and the only person you need to please is yourself. So, with that said...

Design

I personally like your overall design. Except the Colesseum Island. To me it's too busy and too scattered from a functionality point of view. I mentioned before that Colesseum events are the Big Show in DV land and it makes sense to me that the Colesseum Island convey a sense of grandeur. I especially don't care for putting mundane functions on that island, such as farming.

I like the Volcano Island with the Fire & Water combo. Nice layout and nice contrast.

I like the Air Island - its pleasing to my eye.

And I like the symmetry of the Cold & Earth Island - but it's not optimal from a production point of view.

Production

I'm probably the most impatient person in our group. I've been living on Internet time since 1995 and it warps your mind. It's kind of like dog years as things move so fast it's as if five years are crammed into one. So I have given this area some thought as it's either get really efficient or spend gobs of money to get to where I want to be by when I want to be there. Unlike design, this is not subjective. We've established empirical objective standards that apply to anyone who is interested in maximum production:

0 Use habitats with maximum limits
For me, this comes down to Earth at $75K and Cold at $50K. You won't see any other habitats on my islands while I'm striving for the gold shrines - other than Nursery Island and rares.

0 Fill those habitats with the most productive dragons
Panlongs in the Earths and Frostfires and Bluefires in the Colds.

0 Optimize for maximum production
The Panlongs increase their production by 44% when fully optimized - to 411 coins a minute. Nothing rivals an Earth habitat filled with three level 15 Pans. But they fill up hourly. To fully optimize, you use the Water and Fire boosts.

Life with all Pans would be boring. Fortunately, Colds filled with Bluefires and/or Frostfires are highly productive also. When fully optimized with the Cold boost each each their $50K limit in just over an hour.

0 Balance production
You obviously aren't going to be sweeping for coins 24/7 on a continual basis. It would probably lead to confinement in a mental facility. So you need something to make you feel better when you can't sweep and production stops in your Earth and Cold habitats. Enter the rares, especially the Rainbows. They're not high producers compared to the combos above, but they just keep cranking away. With their $1M limit it takes a long time for them to fill up.

You should set the balance between hyper-productive but demanding habitats such as Earth and Cold and low producing but undemanding habitats such as Rainbows to suit your life style.

Hope that helps.

Quick Question

If you have a decoration that is no longer available, such as the ones at Halloween, can you click on it to add another as with other decorations? If yes, since there's no warehouse for decorations it might make sense to store them out of sight behind orange trees or somesuch.

Thanks,
Poppy

What is the whole point of this plant/earth/fire boost? What does it actually do for you or your dragons? I'm confused.

Each boost positively affects 1 attribute by 20% and negatively affects another, it's opposite, by 20%.

eg.
Fire Boost - Fire +20% Cold -20%
Plant Boost - Plant +20% Cold - 20%

If you have a Poison flower, Plant/Fire combo, on an island with both boosts, it's coin production is increased by 44%. If you have a Cold Dragon on an island with both plant and fire boosts, it's coin production is decreased by 44%. These are shown in the "Rate" when you view a dragon by being in green with a + when they are positively affected and in red with a - when they are negatively affected.

The base coin production for all dragons at different levels can be seen at Dragon Reference Chart - DragonVale Wiki This will help you work out how much you gain/lose on a dragon with the various boosts.

Thanks for your input. I'm really unhappy with my coliseum island, it's kind of where I put all the extra stuff I ran out of room for. At some point when I get tired of going for golds I will save money for another island so I can make a good coliseum one. I started moving some statues and stuff around to make that big empty spot for a gem tree, then I got tired and took a nap in the middle. Think I'll try to get some more earth and cold habitats to help with the money process
