Dictionary terms for the iDevices (iPhone and iPad/iPod)
This is my first tutorial and my second post!!!
Please if you find errors or something to add do it freely.
If this tutorial exists somewhere in this forum delete it if you want.
Although i am new to APPLE's products and i dont know many things about ios
i made a tutorial with as many terms i know at this moment.

Dictionary terms for the iDevices (iPhone and iPad/iPod)
You got your new iPhone or the new iPad and suddenly-if this is your first contact with iOS devices- as i am
you are confronted with a number of admittedly unfamiliar conditions,
which differ greatly from the common terms to symbian, android and windows mobile.
Let's see the more common terms and what they mean:
iOS: this is the name of Apple's operating system (iOperatingSystem), as saying android for google phones etc.
At the moment, the current version is 5.1
App Store: Apple's online store where you will find thousands of downloadable applications (200,000 around!), other free and others pay.
Activation: is the process where our mobile or ipad registered, through Internet, and connects with Apple. Necessary the first time you put the SIM and necessary each time you Restore.
iTunes: this is Apple's suite, which is the interface of the mobile with the computer. Everything is done through iTunes enabling mobile, moving applications, songs, videos, calendar etc
USB mode: There is no USB mode in iphone/ipad as we know it from other devices.
Here, the USB connection exists, but the file transfer is NOT the phone directly to a memory card or memory location,
but in some application that has assumed this role (e.g. USB stick) and always via iTunes
(on location Apps, after all it says file sharing).
Jailbreak: is a process that hacks the mobile (or the iPad) and allows you to install multiple applications (applications, tweaks, themes etc.)
that otherwise Apple doesn't allow you.
Cydia: is everything and the App Store, but for applications, themes, tweaks, and a set of applications, enter only with devices that have done Jailbreak.
Springboard: monitors, desktops, scrol right-left and have the application icons or dossiers.
There are some applications, when they install that will prompt you to restart the Springboard (Restart Springboard).
Restart Springboard: Usually a button appears after you install an application and simply press.
Is different from the Reboot, and simply refreshes desktops and not total restart.
Reboot: the reboot is complete, or else it is soft reset the device.
SHSH: some parts of the operating system, which will help restore our operating to the current version, even if changed by apple in firmware.
For example, if you now have the 4.1 version and have saved the SHSH on your device if apple got the 4.2, you will restore the 4.2. But if you want again to 4.1
(to you JB for example), you need the SHSH for restore.
Tiny umbrella: is a program that helps us to save the SHSH Restore or do to get out of the Recovery mode during the Restore process.
Upgrade: upgrade to new firmware through iTunes.
Limera1n: tool (program) to the jailbreak. Runs from our PC. Manufacturer: Geohot.
GreenPois0n: similar to the previous tool, by another group (ChronicDevTeam).
Pwnage Tool: tool that makes JB, notably in Mac environment but also unlocks/activates
RedSn0w: tool which makes activation/unlock phones that have locked SIM in a network and may not work with other SIM from other providers.
Baseband: radio operating, responsible for radio frequencies (phone signal, GPS, WiFi) (only for/on iPhone)
Bootloader is part of covering the operating system startup (boot).
Recovery Mode: is the situation that has not yet started operating and display the image with the USB cable, iTunes.
To get into Recovery mode, just turn off your mobile and then simultaneously hold the sleep/wake and home buttons until the iPhone Reboots.
As soon as you see the Apple logo, release the sleep/wake and continue to hold the home button.
DFU Mode (Device Firmware Update):
This is a different situation from the Recovery mode and many people confuse. At this stage, is not even loaded the operating system yet.
To “ log ” in DFU mode plug the iPhone to USB cable to your PC and open iTunes.
Hold down the sleep/wake and home buttons for about 7 seconds.
The device will Reboot.
Before you see the Apple icon must have already left the sleep/wake while continuing to hold down
home button until the iTunes detect iPhone in Recovery mode.
It is not always easy to achieve.
The feature is that when the phone is in DFU mode, the screen appears black in the recovery mode
Useful in recovery phase and Jailbreak.
OpenSSH and Terminal: applications from Cydia, where with the help of them you can see the contents of the iPhone/iPad via your PC, make copy/paste etc.
iFunbox, iPhone Browser, iFile: alternative programs such as above. Of course, only for JB.
MicroSIM: this is the well-known us SIM card, but here is smaller in size to the iPhone 4/s/iPad 3G/4G, which does not take a normal SIM.
Tethering: is using the iphone with access to the Internet, such as through 3G, to serve as a gateway to the Internet, or as an access point for other devices.
Other devices can connect to this gateway over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB.
In other words, it converts into a mobile WiFi Hotspot.
Pawned: means that a JB mobile, is ready to accept a custom firmware.
Repository (Repo): is a set of applications (applications, themes, tweaks, whatever), all together in one package, which is installed in Cydia.
There are many such packages from various assemblers, but the best thing to do is to stick with the default repos that come standard with Cydia
.ipsw file format are the firmwares of iPhone (IPhone SoftWare IPSW).
.ipa applications from the AppStore.
.deb file format: applications from the Cydia Store.
Accelerometer/Gyroscope: allows the identification of iphone in space and in 3 dimensions.
Tethered Jailbreak: Untethered/Tethered JB means that each time we reboot the device, you must connect to the computer in order to unlock the device.
