For some reason the latest version of iBooks will not allow me to delete books. I hit the edit button, tap the delete button, but nothing happens. The delete button seems nonresponsive and inactive.

Have tried closing apps, resetting the iPad, etc. No dice.

Can anyone help?

If all else fails, guess I could go to the computer---but I would like to solve the problem on the ipad.

You can delete the book from your device, but it is still on your iBooks purchased list. You will see the cloud symbol in the upper right corner of the book, signifying that the book is no on your device. I presume that the iBooks purchased list will work in the same way that the iTunes purchased list works, in that items can't be deleted from the purchased list.

I believe that the purchased list in iBooks is just for books.

While you can not delete or hide purchased books in the iBooks Store on the iPad, the option to see them on your shelf is, well, optional.

In Settings > iBooks there is a Show All Purchases switch. When on you have a Purchased Books shelf in your Collections. When off, not.

The Purchased Books shelf shows all your iBooks purchased from the iBooks Store, with cloud symbols on or next to those that are not stored on the iPad.

It is possible to hide iBook purchases from the store list in iTunes on the computer.

On the main page on the iBooks app there is a button that says either "all books" , "books" , or "PDFs" click on that button. Then a list should come up and at the bottom of the list there is a switch that says "hide icloud books" switch it and then all of your deleted books should disappear
