Police busted a middle school boy for renting out his iPod Touch packed with sexy photos and videos of underage girls. The iPod Touch’s large storage capacity and big screen were put to use for an increasingly common kind of extracurricular activity. The boy’s business was halted when a renter of the illicit images was caught

Damn, they're starting young huh?

Question is tho, was he renting it to adults or to kids? Underage pics being viewed by adults is obviously scandalous and a major crime that should be punished...but when it's a kid sending another kid a pic...well it's just kids being kids....teenagers are horn balls....you can't put someone in jail if it's a 16 year old looking at a 16 year old.

No matter what the technology, there will be those that find ways to exploit it for illegal purposes.

How is this incident any different than when boys rented out magazines to their friends 10, 15, or 20 years ago?

Well, those would probably receive some school punishment also, if any of it happened at school.

But yes, this was worse, as it involved photographing, and distributing pics of, underage girls. (even if the boys involved were underage too.)
People have been raising the furor levels, and making harsher and harsher laws about that, in recent years.

So now, that full furor, and those laws, will hit those boys.
That would be how it is different.

Hello there,
I currently go to the high school where they first caught kids sexting. It is actually a crime because it is possession of child porn. The first kids who got caught doing this got community service because it just wasn't tought that such a thing was against the law. Now, students will face sex offender charges if anyone is caught as told to us by our county and city level officers.
Just thought I'd share to the people that thought this was just a teens being teens kind off thing.

Do you remember the 90's when cell phones were just phones? Was it really necessary to start putting cameras and video recorders into them?

I remember seeing Bell Tel try to introduce the PicturePhone at the NY World Fair in 1964. Nobody wanted it then.....maybe we had more smarts 45-odd years ago.

This topic is so insanely moronic. Kids have been passing around magazines and books to each other since print was invented. The only thing that this technology does is to allow hormone laden middle schoolers to take pictures of one another and pass them around for the admiration of their peers.

Know what they should do? They should outlaw cell phones and the like at schools. Not the 'turn them off' rule - they should make kids check them in at the front door - period. I have kids that age and I know what they do with texting and messaging between classes and during classes.

But no - instead they're going to take some poor kid, a kid who probably had the picture sent to him by a bunch of girls playing a prank - and slap that kid with a sexual predator label for the rest of his life. They might as well drag him off to the state offenders cube on the other side of the football field and neutralize his life form.

In 1585 Gutenberg invented moveable type. He set the Bible in German and book publishing began. TWO WEEKS later the Baron Von Furstenberg brought him a small tome of dirty poems to type set.

Edison invents the magic lantern movie show and within a month there are porn flicks available in booths. Well strip tease anyway.

The VCR arrives in the late seventies and there are adult video sections in video stores within a year.

There are thousands of porn sites on the Internet within a few years of NETSCAPE.

This is nothing new. It's called human nature.
