Connecting to iphone hotspot.

Can anyone please tell me if it is possible to connect to the web using my Iphone hot spot. I have got an IPhone 3GS and a 16gb wifi only IPad.
I have searched the web and all the posts I have found have talked about jail breaking and down loading an app called mifi.
I know my hot spot works because I can connect my laptop using USB.

I have managed to work it out myself.......turn on the hotspot on the iPhone then pair both devices on Bluetooth
