Closing apps

Hi all - glad to find this forum I must say!
I have two questions which someone may be able to help me with.
1) How can i play a .mov or .wmv file that has been uploaded to my Dropbox. Will it always have to run through the
internet or can it play from the iPad directly?
2) is it okay to close apps down by pressing when shaking as I do not always want confidential docs left unlocked.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

To play those type of files you will need a multimedia player, there are many available, I use Buzz Player
To close an app completely you need to do it from your multi task bar. From the home screen do the four finger swipe up or double press the home button to reveal your multi task bar. Long press the app until it jiggles and a red minus sign will appear above it. Press the minus signs and this will close the app.
