now it's getting too good to choose! what shall we do?

Apple have never given it to us so good. There's no argument over pricing and frequency of upgrades - we already know all this with Apple, fan boy or not, and we know no company will stand still, technology is always always on the move and companies want to maximise on profits every time. This is the way of things and always will be. Anybody who has grief with these policies needs to stand back and take a reality check - there's no argument to argue. All companies are the same. Pricing and upgrades are a way of life. We as consumers must get used to it.

That's not having a go of course, just stating the blinkin obvious. And life wont change any time soon, other than giving us a better bigger choice


So what to do? i'm just curious what peeps here think.

If like me you're a fan of techie, but don't have the budget to buy every device Apple ever made under the sun, you have to decide every year or 2 what to buy. They've basically radically upgraded their entire range over the last several months. Awesome. Trouble is we're now so spoilt for choice it's uber frustrating. I use Mac Pro's for work. Dont use notebooks or laptops, and dont own a mobile phone. But i own a 1st gen ipod Touch and an ipad2. and a very limited budget.

I'm really wanting an iphone 5, but i'd never use the cell phone side of it, so maybe i'll spend a whole lot less and update to a new ipod Touch for Christmas for myself. An amazing device.

But then, wow, how about a new ipad mini? who'd say no to one of those? i simply love my ipad 2. a life changer for me. Runs my business, great for watching video and tv, and just awesome for web browsing. But i dont think i'd really want to browse the web on anything smaller. it's sometimes frustrating enough to browse as it is, but smaller? no thanks. Also, doing spread sheets and work documents is just about tolerable on ipad. Cant imaging doing that on a smaller screen.
But it bodes well for a new ipad next year - the 4th gen had some decent upgrades, but they were pretty much on-going mid term improvements. It's now more than likely that a new gen ipad next year will be radically lighter. Not necessarily super thinner, but considering Apple's evolving manufacturing and construction techniques recently it's almost inevitable we'll see a dramatically less heavy ipad next time round i'd say.

So, new ipad5 and ipod Touch probably (might even get Apple TV for streaming purposes). Just super frustrating i cant have anything else. a new macbook pro (any size) would be just peachy of course.

if they dont do what they're doing the stock price won't be that high anymore and will be lots of job cuts and if we don't support what they re doing it will be one vicious circle

I'm glad Apple, as well as other hardware makers, are offering consumers more choices.

I have lots of electronics and expect to keep buying, depending on how they can tempt me. Their stock prices and business savvy are their concern. I just buy according to my needs.

Right now I'm considering adding an iPad 4, but am not interested in a mini iPad, which I consider a repackaged iPad 2. I've also got a Kindle Fire HD 10" 64GB on order, and am waiting to see how the MS Surface pro turns out next quarter. I'm leaning toward buying one of those. Meanwhile, I use a mix of two iPads, a Kindle Fire original, a 5" Samsung Note, iPhone 4S and touch 4.

Everyone has different desires and has a unique view of the varied opportunities available.

For me at this time, the iPad 4 hold no attraction, not because it is not good, but because I have a significant investment in the iPad 3 and see little added value in making an upgrade. I will keep using my iPad 3 until I see a strong motivation to upgrade. The retina display is the reason I dumped my iPad 2 for the iPad 3 after only a year. I need to see at least 128GB option before moving on.

However, the iPad mini does hold my attention. After using my GN7 since july, I appreciate the form factor. Also, I tend to find using iOS stuff to be an superior experience overall to Android. I use a lot of apps (apps are the reason to own the hardware, IMO) and those on iOS for tablets are just better, IME. Thus, the notion of a very light weight ipad is pulling me to buy the darn thing. I'm trying to decide whether to go whole hog or not. Also, which this device, I can partition my iOS apps and solve my storage problems.

I think the iPod Touch is a cool device. But so is my 4S. It is a touch with a phone. I see this 4S becoming my iPod once I move to a new phone. I probably will pay full price for the next phone so I can keep my unlimited on Verizon. Then, I probably will keep that phone until it dies.

I have so many laptops that I can't justify any of those. And while I think that iMac is really sweet, I'm a Windows guy. I find OS X to be very nice, but I just can't see transferring all my stuff -- and I have a LOT of files -- over to a MAC. Nope, I will stick with Windows until I die, but I will use my MBA for some playing around with iBooks Author.

Now, this Surface thing is interesting. I will keep my eye on it and bite when things have matured a bit. I don't need it now...and good things come to those who wait. The Surface RT devices are, in my view, MS Office machines. These could make a lot of sense for a certain segment of consumers. I run MS Office a lot, too, but I have a lot of laptops. Plus, I need a screen that works with a pen, not just a touch screen. So the Surface RT devices are insufficient for my needs.

Google is supposedly going to offer up the Nexus 10 on Monday. While I do believe iOS is better, the GN7 is one nice little tablet. So I will be paying attention to this device and its retina display. If I get the mini, though, then I probaby won't get the Nexus 10. At least not this year. I need to make sure all my purchases are spot on and the Android stuff is more tricky, IMO, than the iOS stuff, in that regard.

Soon, I will be clearing out some stuff. My kindle fire is on the chopping block as is my Acer Iconia A500. I will gift these to someone.

I am not going to buy the iPad Mini nor the new iPad(4). I'm looking forward to the Surface by Microsoft. I want to see how that device compares to my iPad. I'm a bit concerned about the Surface being a pseudo Microsoft 8 system. I want a tablet that can run full blown OFFICE applications. I am a Microsoft and Intel investor, so I am inclined to save up for the Surface Pro(?) version and keep my money in these companies.

I am keeping track of my iPad utilization and I'm finding that I still use my iPad original for reading e-books and doing other casually entertaining activities. This iPad is a 3G model so I can check personal email, stock market updates, and when I'm on the road find myself with its GPS enabled Map app. At first I thought of migrating from this iPad to my iPad 2 and the new generation iPad (3). But Amazon is offering a larger Kindle Fire 9" HD that offers 4G service for US$50.00 for one year, an Amazon Prime subscription that includes ebooks, movies & TV shows, etc, per year for another US$50.00. If I continue the same consumption behavior as I have established in the past two years with my original iPad, getting this Kindle 9" tablet will SAVE me money!

Yes, we have choices. It is nice to have the ability to consider all possibilities, and not just an Apple device.

It can get frustrating when you buy something and not long after it's been upgraded. This happens a lot in the PC world and it got to the point where I just got tired of doing the upgrade game.

Yeah there is some cool gadgets coming out or is out on both sides(Android and Apple)but it comes down on what YOU really want and not what you think you want. Do you really want the new iPad 4 or not? Do you want the mini or not?

I sometimes wish I had the money to buy every device out there but if I did what in the world would I do with all of it? I have to tell that to myself each time something new comes out. What will I do with it? How will I use it? Makes it easier for me to decide on what I want.

Still, we can make choice anytime, anywhere.
I asked one friend, why not change your 3GS to 5? I thought it was really out of date, and should upgrade to 5, or 4S at least, just to enjoy more...
He answered no, he is so happy with it, and he will upgrade anytime he likes and give the old one to his mom

I've got the Kindle Fire HD 10" on order, but I see it as a convenience, rather than a savings. If I wanted to save money, I'd be better off not buying any tablet, lol. I do like the Prime book lending and movies, but find them limited. I still buy books and watch Netflix. I'm signing up for the $50 data plan, too. But that's just a one-year offer.

I'm waiting for the Surface pro, too. Seems like it's going to take forever.

Of course, these are first world probs, and I'm glad we have at least this many devices to compare and choose from.

I can afford more devices than I own, but I still limit myself. It would do me no good to buy lots of devices I wouldn't use or would have to spend a lot of time figuring out. Even with many options, I pick and buy those that are user friendly and reliable, and that I can reasonably use.

If the weight is not an issue, I would suggest you get the 4th Gen New iPad. In my opinion, the 5th generation won't have much difference. (should be thinner/lighter/more drive space/8M iSight Camera/better front camera)
Actually I would think Apple should not have released the 3rd gen New iPad earlier this year. in my opinion, this 4th gen new iPad is the true mature product.

It's been hard to resist all the new tablets and stuff but the trusty iPad 2 keeps chugging along. I'm able to block out all the news and ads for better and newer products from my mind. Very tempting but I'm gonna lay low for now. I'm sure I won't be able to hold off forever or anything. Of course.
