I have not tried it yet but was told you can charge iPad via USB as you can iPhone. Is that correct? What is the difference?

It will but very slowly. However the ipad charger will work for your iPhone. iPad need more Watts to be charge than the iPhone that why it will be slow.

The iPad requires 10 watts and the iPhone/iPod use 5 watts. You can charge an iPhone/iPod with an iPad charger but you can't charge the iPad with an iPhone charger. Some, few, computers have high power USB ports that charge the iPad but not too many do.

I have a MacBook, an iPad, and an iPhone. Each charger is different size. Is it ok to just carry the biggest one (MacBook), and charge the iPad and iPhone with it? Will the larger amperage damage the smaller units?

The large amps will not damage the unit. The device will only consume what they need. If it was more voltage then there is a big problem.

yeah u can do that, but the battery will absorb less power as compared to the main switch socket. Its because your laptop is sharing its energy with the phone at the same time.

Computer USB charging unless indicated otherwise is usually limited to the typical USB standard of 500mA at 5 volts DC. The iPad AC charger is rated at 2.1A at 10 watts, it's always better to charge using the included adapter. Computer USB charging should be performed when the iPad is completely turned off.

The iPad will charge from USB. It will not charge and function at the same time because the iPad will consume more power than it is being fed. Some of the newer Apple computers will charge at the higher rate the iPad prefers. The only thing to remember is that when using a USB connection or iphone charger, it will get the job done.....if you are patient.
