Can the default "photo save" app be changed?

Is it possible to force an iPad to save photos to an app other than the native photo app?

For instance, can photos from apps such as PS Touch, Snapseed, Face Tune, etc, be saved directly to an app such as Photo Manager Pro? Same for photos saved from other sources, such as e-mail.

I'm mad at the native Apple photo app.

Photos from emails can be saved to other apps, using the "Open In..." Feature.

Snapseed has the "Share" button next to "Save". This works the same as "Open In..." for other apps.

I don't use the other apps you mentioned, but maybe there's also a way round.
Another app, not mentioned by you, Photogene, shows exactly where you're able to save the picture to.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, J.A. Works great for all apps with an "open in" feature.

Any ideas for photos that are saved from e-mails, air dropped in, etc?

Perhaps when my shiny new "Air Stash" arrives it will afford more flexibility.

My native Apple photo app is apparently corrupted (to be the subject of a near-future post). It's still usable as a receptacle to transfer to/from.

The Mail app has sort of an Open In.. feature.
Tap the picture, then select "Quick Look":

The picture will look something like this:

Tap it once to reveal the Share button:

Tap the button and slide to the app you need:

AirDrop saves to Camera Roll automatically, so there doesn't seem to be a workaround.

Hi Larry - will be interested in your impressions of the Air Stash which will give you yet other exchange image options. Also keep in mind that iOS 8 is about to be released which may correct your issues w/ the native Photo app. Dave :)

Major updates to the Photos app are not due out until Spring; when all Apple's photo apps get redone.

However, the new Extensions feature will make it easier for apps to add functionality; so who knows what will happen over the next few months.
