I'm confused on the first clue too, I read it as scatter, but I can't quite figure out the relevance......but then again, I can be a bit thick at times!

Ok, scatter is pretty close. Spread is not so close, but not a bad try.

The usage /definition is IMHO anarchic. The word, is used now to describe a function of TV and radio providers. By what old fashioned means do they get programmes to you? I think I've pretty well given you the answer

Got it, I think.

But a cheated by using Google's search prediction feature to look for partners of ready; when my own memory failed. So I'll wait and see if someone else can solve it fair.
