Hi All.. I have just purchased my new mini ipad 32mg .. I have inserted my 3 email addresses that I use on my Sony Vaio laptop. Trouble is I receive 100's of emails on my mini ipad... some are duplicated but most I have already read and deleted previously on my laptop. I have now switched all my email addresses to off. This is not the answer though 'cos I'd really like to receive my unread emails only on my ipad. What have I done and can it be remedied. Thanks in advance!

It sounds like you have deleted the old emails on your laptop but not on the relevant mail servers. It might be the setting or behavior set-up on your email client on your Vaio. Look out for something about leaving your emails on the mail server.

Hi Thanks for your help.

on my sony vaio I've gone into internet email settings .on POP3 email accounts ..delivery...and checked-- leave a copy of messages on server. unchecked----remove from server after 5 days. and unchecked remove from server when delivered from deleted items. This seems to have worked so far. :) Have I done the right thing? Thanks for your help.

With pop3, if "leave a copy of messages on server" is checked, it does just that. Any actions taken by you with a pop3 connection are never duplicated on the mail server, you would need to connect via IMAP for exact server mirroring.

Now if you uncheck "leave a copy of messages on server", any mail downloaded to your Vaio will be deleted straight away, but will never appear on your iPad. POP3 is not the best method for multiple device connectivity to mail servers, again IMAP connections will allow any change made on either device to be mirrored on the other device.
