Have a look around with the Search button and you'll find dozens of threads on the best apps. Of course, it really depends on what you want to do with your iPad. Business apps, games apps, educational apps, video apps, music apps etc etc. So choose your area of interest and go searching. You'll find a thread on the Top Ten apps, Best Free apps and so on.

Here are some of my favorites of the moment:

Games:
Early Bird HD - which is kind of like Angry Birds, but in a way it is more simplistic.

News:
Fox News - because you can stream the shows from 9-3 live and watch video clips of any Fox News show you like. Comes in handy because I don't have cable.
Politico - for all of my political news
The Onion - for humor
USA Today - for all of my general news
ScoreCenter XL - to keep up with my teams

TV/Movies:
NBC - so I can get my Jimmy Fallon fix because with my schedule I can't stay up to watch him.
Netflix - to stream my Instant Queue

Productivity:
iBooks - excellent eReader app with a ton of features.
InClass - great organizer and daily planner, also with a lot of great features.
Evernote - for taking notes
Bible - pretty self-explanatory

All of the apps I listed are free or have free versions. Hope this helps.
