Hi forumites-
Is there an ipad app that will operate in the background as a 30 min to 2 or 3 hour shut down timer, so you can listen to sirius xm Internet radio in bed?
If yes, and there is a choice, does any app ramp down the audio slowly?

Thanks-
Mark

Unfortunately, apps in the iPad can't interact with each other, except in a very limited sense and then only via the iPad's operating system, iOS. So it would not be possible for an app to 'close the iPad down' or to adjust the volume of another app - unless this was enabled/allowed by iOS which, at present, it isn't.

Thanks Tim.
It seems in this day and age, Apple would have thought of this timer as a "Piggy-back" pseudo app as a basic part of the OS? Forward thinkers that they are, I'm surprised that Apple didn't see the iPad as becoming the "Clock Radio" of the new millennium, even 8 years in.
People bring their iPad EVERYWHERE. I wonder why they thought the bedroom nightstand was off limits?.....

An individual app could do this, of course. So it would certainly be possible for a Developer to write an app that shut itself down after a pre-determined period of time and gradually reduced the volume as it did this. Then the iPad's Autolock would take over. But it's not possible for one app to shut down another app. Apple deliberately took the decision to isolate ('sandbox') apps to prevent a virus from infecting another app or the iPad. This isolation means an iPad is immune from computer viruses because one piece of malevolent code simply cannot affect another legimate piece of code.

Yes, there is a great small free app called 'sleep timer' that will shutoff other apps. It can be set from 1 min to 24 hrs. I use it on the iPad at night to shutoff The Pandora app after 20 min as a sleep timer. It was wrten for the iphone but works well on the iPad.
