Available Memory?

I am considering getting an iPad 16Gb. However I would like to know how much memory is available for use as storage. Generally the operating system and included apps will take up some memory for their use and I would therefore expect the available memory for storage would be less than 16Gb. So what is the amount I could expect with a 16Gb iPad?

A new,just out of the box,16gb iPad 3 has about 13.7gb of free storage,the rest is taken up by the OS and the stock apps that come with the iPad.
