This week, Fortune released its famous list of 500 top corporate companies in the country for 2012. And guess who made it for the first time in the top 10? You’re favorite tech company – Apple!

Apple managed a big leap, leaving the 17th position to take up number six. Apple replaced Hewlett-Packard, which, according to Fortune, has experienced tremendous loss in the past year – nearly $12.7 billion. So far, HP has been the only tech company to make it to the top 10, but 2012 wasn’t a good year, it seems, as the enterprise leaser fell all the way to number 15, making room for Apple. Fortune adds:

"Apple is bigger than ever ... but it's a high-pressure job, being king of the hill.”

Strangely or not, we don’t find many tech companies in the top 100. The few present are quite scattered. For example, IBM comes in at number 20, Microsoft at 35 and Amazon at 49. You might be wondering who made it to number one. The famous retail store chain spread across America, Wal Mart, won the first spot in the Fortune top. The Runner up is Exxon Mobil – a company that has received the world’s most valuable company award.

Another surprise in the Fortune top is new-comer Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg’s social network landed the 482th position. It made the list just barely.

The other companies who made up the Fortune top 10 are Chevron, Phillips 66, Berkshire Hathaway, General Motors, General Electric, Valero Energy and Ford Motor.
