Apple supposedly has a clandestine car research facility in Berlin, Germany. According to the latest intel, this secret lab employs between 15 and 20 "top class" men and women from the German automotive industry, who are described as "progressive thinkers" in their industry. Most of these folks are also described as having backgrounds in engineering, software, hardware, and sales. Of course the purpose of this lab is to develop "Project Titan," which is the rumored name for Apple's future automobile concept.

The source of this intel, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, also shared that Apple is considering a vehicle-sharing model to distribute their future Apple Car. This is similar to Sixt, which is BMW's Drive-Now and European car rental service. That is because Apple has no nationwide distribution network for automobiles.

Additionally, Magna Steyr is supposedly one of Apple's partners for vehicle creation after their R&D has finished. Steyr is an Austrian contract manufacturer of high-end cars. Besides Steyr (and the aforementioned "progressive thinkers") Apple supposedly has hundreds of employees working on Project Titan's R&D. Most of that development is supposedly taking place in an Apple-leased Sunnyvale campus in California.

Let's just cross our fingers that Apple's final design will NOT look anything like the Motor Trend concept we shared in a story last week here: Motor Trend Shares Their Apple Car Concept Based on 'exhaustive research' & 'speculation'. <shudder>
