MCVUK reports today that Apple has changed its refunds policy in the European iTunes store. Apparently the change actually took place last month, but no one noticed until now!

Previously, anyone that requested to be able to return any digital purchase from iTunes and get their payment refunded would have their request dealt with individually on a case-by-case basis, with Apple having the final decision on whether or not the customer’s request for a refund would be granted.

Now, however, any digital purchase can be returned, and the customer refunded their money, within 14 days of purchase. The change brings Apple into line with new digital retail rules in Europe that say that customers are entitled to a refund on all purchases, including digital purchases.

By law, a refund does not have to be given if the customer has had a “performance” of the product, meaning if a music track has been listened to, or a video has been watched. However, MCVUK says that Apple is not sticking rigidly to this ruling, and will be offering refunds for all purchases within the 14-day window.

The Apple policy on refunds in the U. S. remains unchanged, with requests still being considered on a case-by-case basis by Apple.
