AppleInsider writes today about a new note to clients from Forrester today in which it says that it expects that 112.5 million US adults and 105.7 million European adults will own tablets by 2016, or 34.3 percent and 30.4 percent of the respective populations. Forrester says that it expects tablet sales in the US to rise to 37.9 million in 2012, and to 60 million eventually in 2016. AppleInsider says that Forrester cites Amazon’s Kindle Fire as the iPad’s main competition, with analyst Sarah Rotman Epps saying that they believe the Kindle Fire to have achieved sales of 5.5 million in its first quarter of being on sale. Epps also weighs in on the current hot-button topic of the possibility of a 7-inch iPad, saying that she thinks that it would be a good idea, and would help Apple to win back some of the market share from Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Forrester has also surveyed tablet customers about their preferred size of iPad, finding that 62 percent preferred a 10-inch screen, and 26 percent wanted a smaller screen, with 20 percent undecided.
