Sorry about the confusion. The screen shot is indeed from my mini and not the 4s.

Click on the gear and press "turn off chat" if you don't see the gear scroll to the top of the chat panel. If this still doesn't work try closing the app (double tab the home key, press and hold till icons wiggle, press the "x" for the Facebook icon. Try powering off your iPad then turn it on...

I wish my 4s got the same battery life as my mini but I do use my phone a lot more to be fair.

It may not be okay but that is the way it is. Technology moves fast and old hardware can't keep up with new software. Oh and their will always be fan boys.

The point for me is that it is smaller. Which for me is more conducive to reading in bed. Which after holding my wife's kindle fire vs my ipad 2 it seemed that the fire was about the ideal size. The ipad mini is very close. The iPhone was okay but too small for a lot of reading in on sitting.
