Is it ok to use windex wipes on the screen or something of a similar nature to wipe the fingerprints off?

Just use a microfiber cloth and if needed, your breath for a little moisture. No need for Windex. If you need something "heavy duty", eyeglass cleaner should be the strongest you need. Windex is overkill.
