I have had 19 updates showing on my iPad 2 for a week now. They show "Waiting" on the actual icons. I can't use them while they are installing, but they won't finish installing!

My original iPad shows over 100 updates pending but that number has been high since iOS 5 as many of the updates require iOS 5, but I didn't think I could install that on the original iPad. The strange thing is, the original iPad manages to install and/or update many of the apps that I am still waiting for the iPad 2 to finish installing or updating.

Also (sorry, I'm on a roll here) almost every app on the iPad 2 crashes quite often, while this does not happen on the original ipad.

I called Apple a few days ago and was told "We are aware of that problem" (the update hangup) and I was then transferred to another department. I hung up, thinking Apple would release a bug fix update soon.

And when I signed on to IPF this morning, I thought this issue would be front-and-center. But I don't see it anywhere.

I sure need help!

Give these steps a try and see if it helps:-
Do the four finger swipe up or double tap the home button to reveal your multi task bar along the bottom. It will show all the apps that you have opened at one time or another. Long press one of these apps until they start to jiggle and red minus signs will appear above them all. Press all the minus signs, this will close them, not delete them. It's a good idea to do this regularly just to keep them all running smoothly, I do mine every night. Check and see if it is operating now. if not a restart is in order.

Restart: Press and hold the power off button, the one at the top right. You will see a slide appear to power off, slide this and the screen will go dark and a Whirly will appear. When the Whirly disappears your iPad is now off. Press the power button again until the Apple logo appears, this will take a few seconds and your iPad will start again. You should restart your iPad occasionally also as it will keep it running smoothly. Now see if it is operating. If not a reset is the next step.

Reset: Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you will see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start. This is a reset.

When your iPad begins to behave strangely these are the first steps you should do to rectify it. Let us know how you go, good luck!!

On the ipad 2:

One of the apps that crashed all the time now works fine.

But it still shows 27 updates... "Waiting".

On the original iPad:

It says there are 119 updates to install.

After I upgraded I also had some apps that wouldn't update the same as yours. I think it was 11 to start and over time it came down to 5. I deleted them all and reinstalled them and now they are fine. I don't know if you want to go that route but maybe give it a try on the apps you want up and running now. If you tap the app sometimes it kind of wakes them and then they will install this way too. Someone else may chime in with a better solution though.

But it still shows 27 updates... "Waiting".

I think leelai above has got the bases pretty much covered. But as a last gasp suggestion on my part, try this:
Go into iTunes on the iPad and go into "Downloads". Is there any download there that is hung up? Pause that and anything that was previously waiting on the iPad should now download normally.
Regards, Andrew
