What about emailing it to yourself which works but takes time.
They are certain apps that can put pictures into your saved pictures folders.
Buy PicsAid (I tried the demo only, I'm not advertising and I'm not responsible for damage)
Jailbreak it and mount/SSH it to your desktop.
Create your own app using Xcode or other ways.

Transfering using Cloud Server?

I simply use a cloud server to store/transfer photos. Are there any thoughts around here about that being a good/bad option?

It is not an option at all.
Looking at remote photos through a brpwser or something similar is not practical

I thought the question in discussion here was about various options for transferring photos from an iPad to a PC. I use a cloud server (Dropbox) for transferring photos from my iPad to my PC.

I don't use a browser for viewing the photos. I use my iPad and/PC for viewing.
