Syncing POP account Mail

Is there any way to sync an email pop account between my OSX and iSO computers? I'm not talking Gmail, Yahoo, etc here.
Ridiculously time-consuming to have to manage my email twice. On the iTunes Info. there are 2 Sync Email checkboxes, but these don't sync the actual messages.

Could you switch to IMAP? That would solve all the problems. If your email service provider supports the newer IMAP protocol, then all would be well...
