Syncing contacts etc with another apple device.

I was given an iPhone a time back and when I set it up it must have allowed me to transfer my contacts, calendar etc from an iPad I owned.
Some time later now I cant seem to work out how to make contacts etc I add to the pad, show on my phone.
Can anyone remind me how.

Set up the same email accounts on both devices and enable Contacts on both. The contacts from the account will be visible in the Contacts app on iPad and iPhone. When you add or remove a contact on one of them, it should also appear/disappear on the other one.

Log into iCloud with a same apple ID and sync the contacts.
