speaker switch

on my ipad the speaker switch turns the speaker off with some applications (ipod etc) but not with others (iplayer etc). Is it faulty?

The speaker switch only switches off ‘system sounds’ - i.e. new email - but not music etc. It’s designed to stop the iPad interrupting meetings etc unintentionally. To turn off music etc you have to turn the volume all the way down.

Thanks. I wasn't sure when it was operable and when not. It seemed a bit random to me!
