My daughter shattered the digitizer glass on her iPad Mini. I purchased a third-party replacement and followed the instructions on their short video. The repair went well. However, I made a colossal mistake that I realized only after viewing a longer installation video from another vendor. At the base of the LCD are what looks like two pieces of black tape. Assuming that they were, indeed only tape, I cut them to remove the LCD. When I put it back together, the LCD didn't work. The second video showed much more care being taken with those pieces of "tape". It was then that I realized that they must actually be grounding straps for the LCD. Is there anywhere I can get new ones? The ones I had are irreparable.

I'd try the ifixit.com site. If they don't show the part you need I think they have a forum where you might get advice. I'm not sure, because I've never had reason to join the site.

In London, UK, and hence I assume other major cities/ countries there are 'surgeries' run by experienced groups of people specialising in high tech (iPhone, iPad, etc.) repair. (I recall last year a local news TV prog covering them.)

Perhaps there is something similar where you live?

Ken, The tape is not causing your LCD to not work. Does the ipad still make sounds? Did you disconnect the battery before you disconnected the LCD or digitizer?
If you didn't then the odds are that you blew the backlight circuit which requires a repair done by someone who is well versed in microsoldering and board level repairs.

Thats's the worse case scenario... before we conclude that the backlight is shot, try a hard reset by holding down the power and home button for 10 seconds. If that doesn't work hold the ipad up to a bright light and look for a very faint image. If you do see a faint image then the backlight was damaged. if you don't see an image then it's possible that the LCD connector was damaged during the repair or not reseated properly.

Thanks. The iPad makes the usual noise when I plug in the power connector, so I know it's alive. I'll try the hard reset when I get home. I know that the LCD was working throughout most of the repair because I accidentally turned it on a couple of times during disassembly.

Ok. Like I mentioned above if you had unplugged the lcd before the battery during disassembly , that means backlight damage. If you are in the U.S. Check out Mendonipadrehab.com who perform these types of repairs.

Thanks. Never having taken an iPad apart myself, I was unwilling to rule out that the 'tape' might not have been tape. I was hoping you were hanging out and would come back with better info, but couldn't quite remember your handle in order to poke you in the side.

I need a help with my iPad mini.
I changed the touch screen because she crashed. The process was successful and iPad worked very well after, but some time later using ipad, started a trouble on home button...

As a ghost button, the button is pushed lonely unexpected, closing apps and going to home screen or like a double tap opening multitask.

Somebody had this trouble? I don't know what to do, if I change the touch screen again would work

On the back of the touch screen glass , near the home button , there is exposed circuitry that is short circuiting against the iPad frame. This needs to be covered with tape to prevent the short. There should be tape on the back of the old touch screen but if you don't have it any thin non conductive tape will do.

I've deleted the other thread started by you which asked the same question. Besides fragmenting any resulting conversations, making them hard to understand, duplicate posting is against our rules.
