Playing .WMV files on Ipad2

Could someone please help as it is driving me dotty I need to be able to play some .WMV files on the Ipad2, the full story is I have a couple of greyhounds that run locally and we are going to Florida for holiday in 2 weeks and I can download the races via email while in the US but all the test ones I have tried fail to load my local apple shop said it was because of them being .WMV files.
Please could someone please tell me in very plain English how I would get these to play before I go away.

You can play wmv movies with OPlayer. The native videos app doesn't support wmv, which is why it will not work without a third party app

For the iPad, it's full name (at the App Store) is OPLayer HD ($4.99, USD). There is a Lite version, which is free so you can see if it'll do what you want.

I, personally, use it as my app of choice when looking at those .wmv files people send me. It works fine for me (I have the full version). Of course, and as always, YMMV.
