No, its not the same. Apple tablets are more locked-down than the others but one of the major advantages of that is the fact that its basically impossible to get a virus.

Never say never. As much as folks use their iPad for online banking, shopping and what not, I'm sure there are idiots out there trying to create viruses that will allow them access to the info on your iPad... probably just a matter of time.

Apple vets all apps before they are made available on the iTunes App Store and to date no issues have come up. Added to that the iPad's apps are "sandboxed", that is apps are generally isolated from one another as well as the OS.

Unfortunately that's not the case with Android, as noted in this news story from a little while back...

Also, if you jailbreak your iPad it can become a problem if you install apps other than those on Cydia's site (so far).

But like Wookiee2cu said, never say never. About the only thing anyone needs to worry about is making sure that they use their iPad (as with any portable device) wisely when on public WiFi. More here:
