Hi, welcome to iPF!

There was an update for Apple TV the same day that iOS 8 was released. If your Apple TV isn't up to date, this might be the reason for your problem.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I also applied the Apple TV update but sadly it made no difference. I have also rebooted the Apple TV and ipad

Just been through all the apple support help but can't trace the problem.
My iPhone works just fine but then it is stil on ios7

Even reconfigured the live box router

Definitely something related to the ios8 update

I've been using mirroring without problems a few times since the update.

Disable and enable AirPlay on your Apple TV. Restart iPad, Apple TV and router. Maybe this will help.

Maybe it is the combination of hardware generations.
I have a 2nd generation Apple TV with only 720 resolution
What do you have

I can see the AirPlay icon and the ipad makes a connection but no mirroring icon. Also filmon app doe not stream to the Apple TV

Mine is a third generation.

I'll keep on searching for a solution. In the meantime: did you reset/reboot once or more often? Sometimes you need to reset for a second or third time to get it going again.

Also make sure the software of your router is up to date.

One more option:

When you check mark Apple TV on your iPad, it will look like this:

The Mirroring button is below it, hidden yet. To get to it, you'll have to scroll:
