Ipad won't shut off when cover is closed

This just began within the last few days. After a period of non use the battery runs down. Over night it is dead.
i can live with this by turning it off.

Any thoughts appreciated.

In settings under general lock unlock set to on?

Do you use a rotating iPad case? If so, try rotating it 180°.
The case could be "upside down", the magnets that usually lock the screen possibly are not "at the right place" and won't work.

Thanks. It was turned on so I turned it off and on again and all is well. I think the problem may have occurred with the latest update.
