Hi, welcome to iPF!

There are a few things you could take a look at, when trying to print:

Make sure the printer is turned on. Wait for a minute, sometimes the iPad doesn't find the printer immediately.
Printer and iPad have to be connected to the same Wi-Fi. AirPrint will not work in any other case.
Make sure you're within range of your printer, when you try to print for the first time.
The printer must have the latest software installed.

You can't print from every app. Safari, Pages, Photos, ... can print directly, as well as some apps from App Store.

Make sure the printer is set up to direct print as hot spot not on wifi net work. Refresh wifi settings and try again. The printer must be selected in the wifi panel before attempting to print via air print... Hope that helps. Oh I for got. Welcome to our forums. Will move this to help forum... Colin

I'm not sure what Wireless Direct is, but it won't connect with the iPad. What you need is AirPrint. According to Apple's site your printer is AirPrint compatible. Go through the manual and make sure you've got AirPrint set up on the printer, especially if it was and either/or choice between it and Wireless Direct.

Sometimes it is necessary to restart your router before it will recognize AirPrint. Worth a try.
